Since 2009
BYW LAW was founded on the belief that the best legal counsel comes from a small, senior team that stays close to every matter it takes on.
Our Story
We built the firm we wished existed when we sat on the other side of the table.
In 2009, a small group of lawyers left larger institutions with a shared conviction: that clients facing their most consequential problems deserved the direct, sustained attention of senior counsel — not a rotating cast of associates.
What began as a handful of lawyers has grown into a firm that remains, by design, deliberately small. We turn away more work than we accept. That discipline is the source of our strength: it lets us commit fully to the matters we do take, and to the clients who trust us with them.
We believe that judgment cannot be delegated. That the lawyer who first hears a client's problem should be the one who sees it through. And that continuity — of relationship, of understanding, of accountability — is worth more than any headcount.
We believe in taking clear positions and standing behind them. Our advice is not hedged for the sake of caution; it is the considered judgment of lawyers who have seen these questions before and who will still be here when the next one arises.
We grow slowly and deliberately. We add lawyers not to fill an org chart, but because a particular capability makes us better for our clients. The result is a firm where every name on the door is a lawyer a client might actually work with.
The BYW System
The partners who win the engagement are the ones who do the work. No handoffs, no learning curves billed to the client.
We stay small on purpose. A limited docket means every matter gets the focus it demands — and none is treated as routine.
We measure success across decades. The clients we served on their first matter still call us for their most difficult ones.
